technologies of Communication, Navigation and Measurement, to provide information essential to reduce and possibly prevent environmental risks.
The Earth observations from on-board satellites cover many aspects related to the environmental protection, such as:

identification and management of natural (water, in particular) resources
biodiversity
urbanization
climate change.
Remote Sensing is mostly made by satellites in polar orbits, rather than satellites in geostationary orbits which are used, instead, for telecommunications.
